Mount Elgon has a gradual slope as you climb to the Caldera or crater rim. Climbing the peak requires no special equipment or technical climbing experience. There are great caves of historical significance; wildlife includes Bushbuck, tree hyrax, buffalo, waterbuck, duiker, bush pig, leopards etc. Rock paintings, gorges and water falls which provide some of the most exciting sceneries in Uganda. The bamboo forests and terraced coffee plantations enhance the lovely views. Birdlife is particularly prolific in this area. Sippi falls are a particular favorite to photographers and lastly there is the old fashioned house that was a retreat to the last colonial government of Uganda.

Day 1
Start your journey to Mbale via Jinja. You could Stop-over at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, or Mabira forest for a short forest walk. When you reach Jinja pass by famous source of the world's longest river, the River Nile, proceed to Mbale. You will reach in time for dinner and overnight at the Sippi Falls Rest Camp.
Day 2
Proceed on the climb via the Sasa trail, through the Piswa trail:
Budadiri to trailhead (4 hrs), from trailhead continue to Sasa River Camp (2 hrs). Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
After a morning meal, proceed to Sasa Patrol Hut (2 hrs), continue to Mude Cave campsite, If you are a strong walker may leave your bags at Mude and continue to Jackson's summit 4,192 m (2 hrs). Dinner and overnight at Mude Cave.
Day 4
Early morning breakfast and leave Mude Cave for Wagagi Peak, this climb is approximately 4,321 m and will be covered in 4 hrs. This is a tiresome activity so return to Mude Cave in time to relax before dinner and overnight.
Day 5
In the morning leave Mude Cave to the Caldera Hot Springs, the natural beauty of the nature here pays off for the 4 hours journey. Return to the hunter's Cave Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Today there will be a six hours transfer from the Hunter's Cave Camp to Piswa Patrol Hut. You have had a long day already, dinner and overnight.
Day 7
From Piswa Patrol Hut proceed to Kamnarkut this will take about 2 hours. Continue and transfer to Kapchorwa, another 2 1/2 hrs. Visit the Sipi Falls. Dinner and overnight at the Sipi Rest Camp.
Day 8
Have an early breakfast and start your journey through Mbale.
Return to Kampala at leisure speed, arriving in the late afternoon.
Depending on your flight time, you could do some shopping or check in at the airport.
