Main attraction is Gorilla tracking; permits must be pre-booked, guided forest walks: one popular trail leads to a pretty waterfall, you could also focus on birding and monkey-viewing.
WHEN TO VISIT:
Rainy seasons are more challenging but the park can be visited through out the year.
WHERE TO STAY:
Two up-market tented camps, a lodge, community-run budget rooms and camping are available near the Buhoma entrance gate.
A magnificent verdant swathe across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley, this ancient rainforest is one of the few in Africa to have flourished. It is home to half of the world’s endangered population of mountain gorillas. Looking into the expressive brown eyes of these giants is surely an exciting wildlife encounter Uganda has to offer!
The park also boasts of 90 other mammal species, including 11 primates of which the black and white colobus is prominent plus a big number of bird species. It has four gorilla groups currently and only six persons per group are allowed to visit on daily basis, these strict rules are meant to prevent behavioral disturbances and transmission of diseases.
